McCormick Ranch was developed beginning in 1972 and largely covers the land that was the oldest working ranch in the city of Scottsdale before that time. The original ranch was owned and operated by Fowler and Anne McCormick of the Cyrus McCormick family (International Harvester) out of Chicago and was used to raise Aberdeen Angus cattle and Arabian thoroughbred horses.
The ranch was sold to Kaiser-Aetna for residential development and the northeast corner was resold to become what is now known as Scottsdale Ranch. McCormick Ranch was developed from south to north with the earliest residences constructed in the early to mid seventies in the area north of Indian Bend Road and south of Via De Ventura. Development continued north of Via De Ventura and extended all the way up to Shea Blvd. by the mid eighties.
