Property Description
Welcome to Apache Peak 127, a beautifully finished and recently substantially updated, full-featured, 5,928 square foot custom home in Desert Mountain, a world-famous, thirty-four-year-old, gated, recreational development with a private golf club (membership optional upon successful application), in Scottsdale, AZ. The home offers: three ensuite bedrooms; an office: an ensuite media room/fourth bedroom; a large master bath with separate closets and water closets (plus a steam shower); a wet bar; a three-car garage with storage and a fresh coat of epoxy on the floor; an exercise room; and a separate two-room, ensuite casita with a fabulous, 360-degree view rooftop ''Party Deck'' on it (complete with pop-up large screen television). This is a ''Wow!'' property in a world-class setting. The home was designed by well-known area architect James Hann, and enjoys near "cult" status having been built, in 2000, by an iconic builder named Robert Byrd. The current owners have updated much of the home, including: remodeling the Exercise Room; remodeling and opening up the Kitchen to make the plan a true "Split Great Room" plan, including putting in a high-BTU wok burner and new appliances; painting the interior a light and bright color; adding an artificial grass "Event Lawn/Athletic Field" (unlighted), roughly 25' by 40' (need a place to play catch with kids or grandkids? This is IT!!) with a small herb/vegetable garden in the corner (grow your own salsa contents!); and putting in a fancy wine storage and display room in the Dining area. Four radon remediation systems are installed. One hot water heater has recently been replaced, and all the HVAC units were replaced around 2013. It is all first-class.
The home is of Contemporary architecture, with a gleaming, upbeat interior. It is located on a 38,127 square foot lot, on a cul-de-sac, away from any busy roads or noisy golf courses, in the highest, eastern-most "Village" in Desert Mountain, from which the views of the entire Valley of the Sun can be stupendous. And they are, from the Party Deck, ranging out to over eighty miles. Simply spectacular! The back patio faces south/southwest and is itself a work of visual art, with different angles and changes of elevation creating interesting sight lines in and out of it. The pool has a reverse negative edge with fire features. The spa is around a corner in a private setting just off the owner's bedroom. A fire feature and heavy landscaping give it a "resort" feel!
The garage and office have just been repainted in preparation for putting the home on the market. If you have dogs, they (and you!) will love the dog door that gives them access to the outside whenever they need "to go". The Exercise Room, approximately 9' by 22', has ceiling-to-floor mirrors, a balance bar on one wall, a television hung up high where it is easy to see while you are on the floor doing your crunches, a built-in "white board" to keep track of the sets you are working on (or to let your family know what time they have to be ready to go to the Club for dinner), and an undercounter refrigerator in which to keep your favorite brand of vitamin water. Time to get in shape!! The Media Room is a perfect place to watch television, with kitchen-based provisions just a few feet away. The Media Room bath serves as the Pool Bath. The Office is well-lighted and has a full wall of floor-to-ceiling drawers and shelves, perfect for stashing files and office supplies, as well as and displaying your 1981 Rose Bowl MVP Award (or whatever other trophies and treasures you have!). The home has exciting curb appeal thanks to a detailed, custom landscaping plan. Your guests will really take notice of this when they come down the driveway into the auto courtyard, even as they are being thrilled by the architectural elements of the house around the front entry! The views from ground level in the back patio include wonderful Arizona sunsets every night of the year, and solid views of city lights, about thirty miles away on the valley floor. The home has a few steps in it here and there but is all on one level.
Desert Mountain is in a very quiet, serene, safe, secure and beautiful location, spread east to west across the foothills of the Continental Mountains on the northern edge of Scottsdale, with homes at elevations ranging from 2,600' to 3,500' ASL. Thousands of giant Saguaro cacti create a very distinctive landscape, a "signature look" for Arizona and the desert Southwest. All Desert Mountain owners enjoy the use of a nearly twenty-mile long private trail system in the mountains at the back of the development for hiking, running, and mountain biking. The trails get up to 4,500' ASL and enjoy amazing panoramic views out over the entire Valley of the Sun. Members of the Desert Mountain Club can rent horses for trail rides. Seven golf courses (six Jack Nicklaus Signature championship golf courses and one eighteen-hole par-3 course), four practice ranges, and a high-tech golf performance center cover the golf needs of Club Members.
For their social, dining, spa, and fitness needs, the Club has seven major clubhouses with ten different dining venues for the exclusive use of its Members. The "Sonoran Clubhouse" is the Club's fabulous swim (three pools), tennis (nine courts, including one grass, five Har-Tru, and three cushioned hard courts), fitness, spa, pickleball (six courts), bocce (two courts), and croquet facility (two courts). It also has a popular indoor/outdoor restaurant. This clubhouse was completely renovated during 2016 and 2017 at a cost in excess of $12,000,000. It is now perhaps the premier facility of its type in the entire Southwest. The other clubhouses are special in their own rights and combine to provide a terrific range of experiences for the Members.
Desert Mountain is a very successful development in very high demand, especially from people in California, Oregon, and Washington. As of September 21, 2020, contracts on homes were 140% of 2019's demand at the same point in the year. At that time, there were approximately 1,900 finished homes, ranging in size from 1,800 to over 20,000 square feet, and in price from about $900,000 to over $16,000,000. About 61 homes were under construction, but barely over 4% of the existing inventory was for sale (ten percent is considered "normal"). So, we are in a very active real estate market. Owners have invested over $30,000,000 in individual homes. Desert Mountain has attracted full-and part-time residents, mostly from all over North America and western Europe. Virtually all of them seem to have made "having fun", particularly with a golf club in their hands, a key priority in their lives. Besides fun and great golf, another thing that keeps them in a good mood is real estate taxes that are strikingly lower than what they may have been used to, particularly if "home" is or was in the Northeast, Midwest, or California. (2020 taxes on this home were only $11,169.08).
Desert Mountain's weather is famously dry and sunny. Our risk of natural disasters is extremely low. Being higher and somewhat removed from the city means the stars are bright at night, the air typically much cleaner, and the daytime high temperatures about ten degrees cooler than the Valley floor, every day of the year. Summers are most enjoyable since it only gets over 100 degrees about ten or twelve days a year here, compared to ninety days at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. And, the temperatures drop fifteen to twenty degrees at night during the summer, a significant difference from life on the Valley floor. The typical lack of humidity means 95 degrees is very comfortable, if you are sitting in the shade. So, being in Desert Mountain on a year 'round basis is a very attractive proposition.
Day-to-day shopping needs for Desert Mountain owners are well-handled within about a ten-minute drive by the merchants in the nearby towns of Carefree and Cave Creek. There are roughly 70 restaurants and bars within about sixteen minutes' drive. Our area is famous for world-class shopping, major league and collegiate sports, terrific air service, and a wide variety of cultural attractions. Desert Mountain's Main Gate is about a forty-five-minute drive to Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. Private jets come and go from Scottsdale Airport, about a twenty-five-minute drive from the Front Gate. Desert Mountain is within two and a half hours by car of normally excellent snow skiing in Flagstaff and offers easy access to the entire American West, including San Diego, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Lake Powell, and a plethora of unbelievably beautiful places in Southern Utah. "Paradise" does not overstate it.
We are excited about showing this wonderful compound to you someday, also helping you learn about the community, the Club, and the area in order to help you visualize what life here would be like for you! In the meantime, enjoy the photographs of the home, the photographs of some of the Desert Mountain Club's facilities, and the separate Document with links to a variety of useful websites.
