The due-south solar exposure is perfect in that it allows for lots of sun on the back patio until late in the afternoon, but shade when the sun is low in the sky or during our warmer summer months, making the back patio very useful as a place to relax without having to fight the setting sun every night, colorful sunset or not. The patio roof was extended a few years ago to create an outdoor living "room" that is at least twenty-five feet deep.
